Covid-19 pandemic followed by worldwide lockdown has made many cricketing activities on halt. Especially in countries like India lots of domestic tournaments has been called-off and it is now finding it difficult to find a window even for next year. Already India has cancelled all their international commitments till December this year. BCCI’s all-important IPL have been shifted to UAE which is officially kickoff from September this year. India’s next international assignment will be their tourn of Australia in December. As of now, it is committed to the tour Australia but anything can happen if the pandemic situation continues for the next two-three months. It will be heartening for the upcoming youngsters because they can’t able to showcase their talents in fellow domestic leagues. But nothing has been confirmed yet the proposed window may have few changes when the time progress.
According to the latest proposed window, India’s domestic tournament will include only Ranji Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. So there will not be any one-day tournaments like Deodhar trophy and challenger trophy next year. Also, the zonal based tournament Duleep trophy and Irani trophy has no window as of now. As per the latest proposed plan Syed, Mushtaq Ali trophy will begin from November 19 immediately after the completion of Indian premier league. The tournament will also pay the way for the franchise to scout the new talents for IPL Window auction which will happen in January next year. As mentioned earlier India’s domestic season will begin with Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy on November 19 and ending with Ranji Trophy final in March 10. As per Ranji trophy is concerned initially zonal-based league was proposed but later it has changed to the existing format. Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy will run between November 19 and December 7 and Ranji trophy will begin on December-13 and ends in march-10 next year.
Women’s domestic league will have both one-day league and t20 league and it will run between November 1 and April 12. As per BCCI‘s working committee, they have fixed Ranji trophy as their priority event and BCCI wants the tournament should happen without any hassles. Top 24 teams from last year editions will split into three groups and the teams that find top three place in both group A and B and teams that find top two places in Group C will automatically qualify for quarterfinals. Bottom placed teams from group A, B and C will be relegated to Group D. as far as Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy is concerned 38 teams will be divided into six leagues and each group match will be played on particular grounds in the city. Initially, the tournament would have started in July-august but due to pandemic and unknown circumstance, the domestic season was postponed indefinitely which paved way for the non-existence of one-day leagues.
