India’s Domestic Season Might Get Extend up to June next year?

COVID-19 pandemic has hurt the sporting activities across the globe badly. Lots of iconic tournaments are postponed or suspended due to increase in COVID-19 cases across the globe. Also due to travel restrictions and safety protocols like maintaining social distancing audience are not allowed to witness their favourite stars in action. Game sport is no different from it and lots of iconic tournaments like world T20, IPL, and other bilateral ties. Now the situation is slowly getting control and cricketing nations are started planning for conducting tournaments. But it might be a huge loss for domestic players as lots of countries are still reluctant to start their domestic seasons. The major reason for this is the safety protocols could not be followed effectively and it involves huge costs which cannot afford for domestic cricketers and tournament. BCCI is still very much on to resume domestic cricket.

Recently they have announced the rescheduled IPL which is all set to happen in UAE. Currently, their main focus is on conducting the IPL without any flaws and making players ready for world t20 which will be played in November-December this year. As of them, they are finding it hard to concentrate on rescheduling domestic tournaments. India is a big nation and there are lots of cricketing activities involved every year and each tournament is interlinked and it is difficult to leave a particular tournament. As of now, they are working on the right schedule to resume the domestic tournaments. A higher BCCI official has told that as of now BCCI is keen on conducting Ranji trophy from November this year but it is not certain to hold the ground level leagues like under-16 and under-19 tournaments. If Ranji trophy kick starts in November then there is the plan to run the event till June next year.

As mentioned earlier India’s domestic season is vast and would consist of more than 2000 matches every year. Also domestic season India is quite long as it will start by July and will end in March. But this year it’s already late and it is not possible to host the tournaments as on date.so BCCI must work on very next possibilities to hold the event. Because lots of players life is involved in it.BCCI official also pinpoints that there will be zonal level tournaments this year and BCCI is keen on conducting the major domestic event like Ranji trophy as per the schedule as it is the foundation stone for Indian cricket. So major suffers will be young Indian talents. Also, the cost of conducting the tournament will be high and players won’t get proper remuneration if sponsor’s face any issues. Ultimately if the tournament is shrunken the revenue will also shrink it will affect the player’s remuneration.

Also, BCCI is keen on instructing their state boards not to involve the staffs who are ageing more than 60. It would halt the supporting staffs and their experience would go in vain. Also, players benefitting from these players will not happen and it would hamper their progress. So BCCI is looking every possible opportunity to resuming the domestic ties which can be beneficial for all sections.
